Fisherman's Festival or Sea Festival is one of the most significant summer coastal celebrations in Latvia, dedicated to fishermen and maritime traditions. It takes place every year on the second Saturday of July — a tradition dating back to 1936 during the first Republic of Latvia. The festivals span the entire Baltic coast — Ventspils, Liepāja, Roja, Pāvilosta, Salacgrīva, Engure, Mērsrags and other coastal towns and villages. Pāvilosta is considered the cradle of this festival, where traditions are still preserved most strongly. The programme includes ship parades, Neptune's appearance, fish soup preparation and tasting, sea-themed concerts, craft markets, sports competitions and night dances.
